Why isn’t my Apple Watch supported?

Train Fitness supports the Apple Watch Series 4,5,6,7,8, SE, and Ultra. Unfortunately we do not support the Apple Watch Series 1, 2, or 3.

We have heard a lot of feedback requesting support for earlier Apple Watch versions, and believe us when we say we deeply wish we could support these models. Unfortunately it’s just not possible.

We can understand how expensive new Apple Watches are - and for this we are sorry there isn’t more we can do. Hopefully the below context and help explain why we don’t support the Apple Watch 1, 2, or 3… despite how badly we wish we could.

Why aren’t previous Apple Watch versions supported?

Train Fitness uses advanced and modern motion-tracking techniques to automatically detect what exercise you are doing, without having to manually input the exercise. We do this with a combination of modern artificial intelligence and advanced motion tracking - up to 100 times per second.

Unfortunately, the Apple Watch 3 and earlier versions run on hardware that dates back to 2016 and earlier. While 7 years may not seem like that much time, artificial intelligence has drastically changed since then.

The computational speed we require to detect exercises simply is not available on older Apple Watches. We need Ferrari performance, but older watch models are more akin to a Honda Civic.

If my watch isn’t supported, what are my options?

You’re still welcome to log workouts manually using the iPhone application. If you do decide to upgrade your Watch, send us a picture of your old Apple Watch Series 3, and your new Apple Watch receipt, and we’ll give you your first 6 months of Train Pro free as a way to help offset some of the cost.

Is there any plan to support earlier Apple Watches in the future?

We have spent 2 months investigating ways to support earlier Apple Watch models. While we are still experimenting with options to support earlier models, we don’t foresee this changing anytime soon. Sorry about this.
